Welcoming Week in September is an opportunity to bring together neighbors of all backgrounds.

Check out this list of events:

• Sept. 4-15: Southeast Nebraska CASA in collaboration with the City of Crete is hosting the Chalk it Up for CASA event in honor of Welcoming Week. Community members of all ages are encouraged to draw pictures or messages with the theme “Light of Hope” as well as pictures or messages that make you feel welcomed in your community. Showcase your talent and creativity by transforming the streets, parking lots, and sidewalks into colorful murals. View full contest details
• Monday, Sept. 11, from 9 - 10 a.m.:  Guided Nature Walk at Spring Creek Prairie Audubon. The one-hour tour is open to the public at no cost. We will meet at the Welcome Center and follow the nearby trails. The walk will highlight wildlife of the prairie, including birds and wildflowers. Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center focuses on conservation of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem and the birds that rely on it. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded at Spring Creek, including Henslow’s sparrows, bobolinks, dickcissels and grasshopper sparrows. Binoculars for use on the walk are available at the Welcome Center, but you are encouraged to bring your own. Registration for this event is not required. In case of bad weather, please call the library at (402) 826-3809. Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is located at 11700 SW 100th Street, near Denton. Public transportation available upon request.

  Monday, Sept. 11, from 5 - 7 p.m.: Multicultural Union Game Night & Potluck Dinner. Crete High School's Multicultural Union is celebrating cultural diversity through FOOD, GAMES, and ART in honor of Welcoming Week. Current and new MCU members and their families are invited to meet for a meal and learn about different cultures. Join the fun by playing traditional games from around the world and end the night with a chalk art competition. Bring a traditional dish from your home country to share. Don't miss out on the prizes.
• Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.: Welcoming Week Job Fair. Nebraska Department of Labor in collaboration with the City of Crete is hosting a job fair in honor of Welcoming Week. In the Crete Carrier Community room, next to the library. A local food truck will be present in the parking lot during the job fair. The are over 20 employers participating in this job fair.
